Gigaba's SlutWalk twitter storm
Minister of Public Enterprises Malusi Gigaba created a mini firestorm on Saturday night after some ignorant comments on the SlutWalk marches. The episode illustrated the power of social media - a medium Gigaba clearly understands very well. It all started with some banter between two senior politicians. See below how the story unfolded. Power to the people!
- @Derek_Hanekom No, let's talk about the slutwalk. Now, I wanna attend as an observer. Might get lucky
- @simonmaraisza @Derek_Hanekom Hey guys, we're just joking. We shud stick to rugby...
- @samanthaperry @KevinMcCallum @maxgeb @derek_hanekom I've found out what this about and how serious it is and I retract my earlier comment
- @samanthaperry @KevinMcCallum @maxgeb @derek_hanekom And I retract it genuinely. No harm was meant...
- @SamWilson1 I've found out what this about and how serious it is and I retract genuinely my earlier comment
- @mgigaba @samanthaperry @kevinmccallum @maxgeb @derek_hanekom I think more than a retraction is required, Minister. This is a public forum.
- @SamWilson1 @mgigaba we appreciate it wasn't meant seriously, but more is needed from you. @kevinmccallum @maxgeb @derek_hanekom
- @mgigaba @megpascoe I think joining the @slutwalkJHB would be the most appropriate apology. It's on 24 September.
- We call on Minister @mgigaba to commit to joining @slutwalkJHB 24/9. Prove SA men take rape seriously. Apology via attitude adjustment. RT
