Muses and Metaphor 2012

NPR's Tell Me More with Michel Martin is looking for your poetic tweets! Go to twitter and tweet us your original poetry using #tmmpoetry. If your poem is chosen, we will help you record it and we will broadcast the poetic tweets in April as part of National Poetry Month. Sweet right?

  1. April is Nat’l Poetry Mo. We combine two of our passions - social media & poetry. Tweet ORIGINAL poems. We’ll air our favorites. #TMMPoetry
  2. And to help us curate our twitter poetry series, we welcome back poet Holly Bass @hollybassdc.  She is a writer and performer here in Washington, D-C. Holly will help us choose some of our favorite tweets to feature on the program. We thought it would be fun though to give you a sense of the kinds of tweets that are coming our way.

  3. #TMMPoetry I am the dead man on the field; I am/ the bird, the beast, the god, the groom, the bride./ I am a hypocrite, a metaphor, a myth.
  4. Into clouds currents/that slip past the floating sun/cast the fly of your heart./Rest,as you wait for blessings/to take the bait. #tmmpoetry
  5. It's also fun to see your retweets
  6. RT @wordblender: my closed eyes / nodding existence / flecks of an iris / in bloomed darkness #tmmpoetry
  7. RT @wordblender: if my blanket were stars / I'd tuck myself in / the sweep of the sea / and count / undeniable sheep #5poem #tmmpoetry
  8. Our poetry series will begin airing on NPR's Tell Me More on April 3rd.  As part of the first segment, we will play tweets from students at Hart Middle School in Washington D.C.  The D.C. Creative Writing Workshop has a program at the school and Michel Martin had interviewed Senior Program Director Alan King @aking020881 earlier this Fall.  We asked Alan King if he would work with the school and ask the students to tweet poems for our series and he said YES! Here first is Alan King's poem...
