Who is Meghan Markle?

Meghan Markle, the American actress, model and humanitarian, is engaged to marry Britain's Prince Harry.

  1. The couple announced their engagement earlier today with the blessing of his grandmother, the Queen.
  2. The UK Royal Household confirmed the pair became engaged earlier this month and that the wedding will take place in spring 2018.
  3. Markle, 36, grew up in Los Angeles and graduated from Northwestern University with a degree in communications.
  4. She won't be eligible to be Princess. However, she'll likely be known as Her Royal Highness, the Duchess of Sussex.
  5. Her breakthrough as an actor came in 2011 when she first appeared as ambitious paralegal Rachel Zane in the hit US television series "Suits," now in its seventh season.
  6. After she was linked romantically to Prince Harry, Markle was intensely covered by the media. Her biracial heritage - Markle has a Black mother and a white father - was particularly scrutinized, eventually leading to a public response from the Prince.

  9. Markle was in a relationship with actor and producer Trevor Engelson between 2004 and 2013, marrying on September 10, 2011, and divorcing in August 2013.
