26th-27th April 2012 - A conference, organised by the Science Museum and the UK Space Agency, celebrated Ariel’s history and legacy and looks forward to the exciting programmes and missions of future UK space activity.
- If you would like me to add a link to your #UKinSpace50 Blog or any photos please contact me @GabrielleNYC

- The #ukinspace50 conference organised by @spacegovuk & @sciencemuseum has begun! Today we are celebrating 50 years of the UK in space.
- Congratulations #ukinspace50 ! Hear discussion on world's first international satellite Ariel 1 on audioboo.fm/spaceboffins @Spaceboffins
- Early start at the Science Museum for #ukinspace50. Past, present and future of UK in space. 50th anniversary of first step today

- Learning about the first UK forays into #space from veteran Ariel scientist Professor Peter Willmore #ukinspace50 here @sciencemuseum London
- When Ariel-1 was being developed our knowledge of the solar system was very different to what we know now. #ukinspace50 ow.ly/i/AvBQ
- #ukinspace50 In 1954 assumed terrestrial magnetic field was simple, had no idea that objects emitted X-rays, believed Sun was usually static
- Prof Peter Willmore talks us through the Ariel-1 payload, many of the expts he was involved in #ukinspace50 ow.ly/i/AvDa
Prof. Peter Willmore #ukinspace50 Ariel 1 history and its influence on understanding solar radiation. http://pic.twitter.com/yAccLjIQ- #ukinspace50 In early 60s Harrie Massey shared out Treasury grant with collaborators - without any bureaucracy. Brilliant :-)
- Nice touch, prof Willmore dons his hard hat to match the Ariel-1 launch photos. :) #ukinspace50 ow.ly/i/AvG8
- Ariel-1 was the world's first international satellite. UK and US worked together (though America nuked it!) #ukinspace50
- Ariel-1's solar and X-ray panels were damaged by the US airforce high altitude nuclear test, project Starfish. #ukinspace50
- RT @spacegovuk: 50 Years of UK in Space bit.ly/Iq8ip5 Our 1st satellite succumbed to US #friendlyfire. Typical! #ukinspace50
Ariel 1 launch pic 1962, the programme run up to Ariel 6 with great development in x-ray detection #ukinspace50 http://pic.twitter.com/lvHQ4biM- It's a little over my head, but this diagram shows the ionospheric instruments on Ariel-1: ow.ly/i/AvJq #ukinspace50
The various instruments on Ariel 1 and the data it provided by Prof. Stan Cowley #ukinspace50 http://pic.twitter.com/5XviPpcy- #ukinspace50. UK has had great influence on the study of plasma environments in the solar system. Great session by Prof. Stan Cowley
#ukinspace50 @CassiniSaturn carries a UK magnetometer .. I did not know that! http://pic.twitter.com/XB9qY4kv
