St. Louis watches the transit of Venus
Venus crossed the face of the sun Tuesday night — an event that won’t come around again for 105 years.

LOUIS • Astronomy fans and the space-curious headed outside to watch the transit of Venus after work Tuesday.
Three "official" watch sites were set up: The St. Louis Astronomical Society sponsored an event at the World's Fair Pavilion in Forest Park; University of Missouri-St. Louis sponsored a viewing at the Richard Schwartz Observatory; and the Astronomical Society of Eastern Missouri was at Broemmelsiek Park in St. Charles County.

- Venus began moving across the surface of the sun at 5:03 p.m. Several sky-gazers created pinhole projectors and cameras to watch and photograph the event.
