Do you offer retakes for quizzes/tests in your classroom?

We stumbled upon this interesting question in our community (http://edut.to/KgoI5B) and decided to ask our Twitter community. Here's what they had to say.

  1. @edutopia yes. It's about proficiency or mastering a topic not the deadline they do it by.
  2. @edutopia Yes to retakes, but the scores are averaged. I use the term "test corrections" rather than retake.
  3. @edutopia yes, our philosophy is not when you learn material but that you learn it
  4. @edutopia students may correct what they missed for half credit.
  5. @edutopia depends. Mostly I let students fix incorrect answers for half credit. If the ENTIRE class bombs - then reteach/retake.
  6. @edutopia Absolutely!! Have for a about 6 years now, very successful! #teacher #edchat
  7. @edutopia Retake tests? Yes! It's a standing offer, and rewrite papers and rephrase exit tickets (cont) tl.gd/kucoh7
  8. @edutopia yes but not always for full credit and often alter form of reassess etc#iteachELA
  9. Yes... For up to a 70%... #7thgrademath RT @edutopia: Informal poll: Do you offer students the (cont) tl.gd/kucmt7
  10. @edutopia retakes are part of the learning process and can be quite valuable. I also let my students make corrections.
