AT&T throttling unlimited customers in Houston

On Sunday and Monday, Feb. 5-6, I asked on Twitter if Houston-area AT&T customers with grandfathered unlimited data plans had been throttled. Here are the responses.

  1. From Mills McCoin:
  2. @dsilverman Right here. By the end of my billing cycle (2/7), I will have spent 19 days on "reduced data speeds".
  3. @dsilverman 1 They said I was in the "Top 5%". 2 The speed reduction is glaringly noticeable. 3 I dabbled in college.
  4. @dsilverman I haven't done any speed tests because the speed reduction is so flagrant.
  5. @MillsMcCoin Aren't you curious as to how low they are? Would love to hear what they're throttling to.
  6. From 3rdCoastChick
  7. @dsilverman I got warning text & email last month (4GB), supposed to start throttling me soon if I approach "top 5% threshold" again.
  8. @dsilverman YouTube & Livestream watching, I don't have wifi at home, it's my only internet connection.
  9. From Chris Hokanson
  10. @dsilverman I've only received the letter once, in either October or November. I had 10+ GBs.
  11. @chris_hokanson very interesting, thanks. it was a LETTER, as opposed to an email or a text?
  12. @dsilverman not sure. Letter said the throttling would only be until the end of my cycle and I got the letter the day before.
  13. From Natotx
  14. @dsilverman Half of the time. That's where my bill gets sent. And prob where I use the AT&T network the most. 832 number...
  15. @dsilverman I was informed that I was "among the top 5% of data users" at the beginning of January. Since then, I've used Wi-Fi where I can.
