In the Araku valley (India), 5000 adivasi villagers gathered to celebrate the plantation of 1 million fruit trees with the support of Naandi Foundation and Livelihoods Fund. The total 6000 Ha that have already been replanted by the adivasi will sequestrate 1,130 million tons of C02 which will contribute to reducing climate warming. At the same moment, villagers in Senegal have also been planting millions of mangrove trees which will have the same benefits on the planet. 

The17th Conference of the parties on climate change is now in progress in Durban, South Africa. Today, at 7:00 pm, the "Momentum for Change Initiative" will be launched in plenary session.The UNFCCC secretariat is seeking to build momentum for the evolving climate regime by enhancing the visibility of successful adaptation or mitigation projects on the ground that measurably improve the quality of life of the people they benefit, and which have a potential to be replicable and taken to scale. Under the Momentum for Change Initiative, the secretariat will create a series of platforms to recognize and encourage such projects. 

Let's hope this initiative will inspire the decision makers in Durban.
