My First Day With Surface, In Tweets

Yes, I stood in line for Surface yesterday. Eventually, I'll write my impressions of it. But the short story is that it's been a mostly frustrating experience, maybe one that will get better as more apps arrive.

  1. I'm 10th in line at the South Coast Plaza Microsoft Store. Opening at 10am. http://pic.twitter.com/i2UaRs2Y
  2. "Sir no chairs allowed" oh so I'm definitely not in an Apple line. Maybe it's a South Coast thing. But Fashion Island is fine with chairs.
  3. I really should have brought my Lumia 900. But it probably would have caused a critical mass of Lumia 900 meltdown in this line
  4. We're going to be allowed in early. Like now. We're being pumped up to cheer. Woot. I mean woot!
  5. Thus wristband worth one year of Xbox Music. I'd trade it to get into the line for special people with reserved cards http://pic.twitter.com/ExBsgiwu
  6. Turns out I was the second person in the store. I missed all the cheering the first guy got :)
  7. I'm about to have an out of box experience with my Surface apparently
  8. Those touch keypads suck exactly as I expected and feel heavier than the type
  9. So how do I tweet? “You would touch yourself” my Microsoft helper tells me. Heh. No Twitter app, but Twitter is native in People app.
  10. Where’s Chrome for Surface? Heh. No, but seriously.
  11. Would take better picture of Microsoft line but grumpy guy? Head South Coast security didn't like me standing on bench http://pic.twitter.com/oVRnq6wP
  12. About 75-100 in Microsoft Surface line at South Coast. Oddly I got in & done faster than many with reservation cards
  13. Finally got the search charms to work. But you know what? Put a friggin search box in the Store itself. Don't make search depend on your OS
  14. More and more, I grow convinced that trying to run Windows 8 on a Mac without Windows-dedicated keys is a freaking nightmare
  15. And now I discover Microsoft Surface doesn't use USB charger but own weird proprietary one. I know, just like Apple.
  16. I keep wanting to write Windows RT as Windows NT.
  17. Says Microsoft, there's no Google Search app for Surface & Windows RT because Google hasn't written one. Wow selnd.com/P9vDE8
  18. @yuusharo no worries. so far, i'm hating it on a mac. looking forward to using it more on a windows laptop and surface
  19. Love that Surface allows multiple users. Wanted this on other tablets as covered here cnet.co/VtXJrI
  20. Don't love Surface pushes email linked accounts for multiuser. Settings > PC Settings > Users > Add User then look for "w/out MSFT acct"
  21. Tossed Surface to the family. Keyboard is liked; kickstand a waste. Just waiting to see if my son finds games.
  22. Son is confused about IE address bar being at bottom. Yeah, me too. And going to store and not seeing a search box is still wrong
  23. Minecraft app for Windows RT. Denied! Play in browser? Nope. Download Java & play from desktop? Nope. Surface is heading downhill with son
