Discussing ad networks - where do we NOT want our brand?

  1. Dear oh dear, @MINIUSA are advertising on illegal file sharing sites. Is that what they mean by "mini individualism"? https://thetrichordist.wordpress.com/?attachment_id=3293#main
  2. @adland @MINIUSA I see Ford and Target there too, what's the big deal? Just because you pirate software doesn't mean you don't need a car.
  3. @ThomasPHorton Interesting take. So only cars shouldn't be pirated? Where's the line of sellable products? @MINIUSA
  4. @adland I'm not sure what that has to do with anything. People that are on that site have spendable money, why wouldn't you go after it?
  5. ...@ThomasPHorton Because by supporting pirating sites you're supporting illegal activities. And that sullies the brand. @MiNiUSA
  6. @adland @MINIUSA or is this an elaborate reference to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HmZm8vNHBSU
  7. @ThomasPHorton No, though I always found it very amusing that of all films, THAT one is being infringed & uploaded on youtube. Irony.
  8. @adland Is there a blacklist of all sites on the internet to not use display marketing on somewhere that I can download?
  9. ...@ThomasPHorton thetrichordist.wordpress.com has a long list of sites where one wouldn't want ones brand to be, if you were an ad buyer.
  10. @adland Haha that's interesting. Adding some of those to our exclusions- and some of them to my bookmarks. For research.
  11. Cheeky.
  12. @adland @ThomasPHorton @MINIUSA Recall the good old days when sketchy sites only used p0rn ads?
  13. Actually, I see that "one weird trick" and ads for Russian brides pretty much evrywhere these days, so I'm afraid I'll have to say "no"
  14. @fairuse @adland @MINIUSA CLICK HERE to discover one WEIRD trick used by household moms to improve CTR on Google Display 500%
  15. Yeah! Those!
  16. @MusicTechPolicy @adland In a practical sense, how do you do this? Only advertised on managed URLs and do no automatic placements at all?
  17. @ThomasPHorton You act like there's no alternative, when clearly there are many clean networks to use. @MusicTechPolicy
  18. @ThomasPHorton I pay my ad-network, don't I? Why can't I demand a clean set of sites to advertise on, like The Deck etc? @MusicTechPolicy
  19. @ThomasPHorton @adland sites that Google is downlinking in search maybe? Of course Adsense may still sell ads on the downlink sites.
  20. @adland I'm acting like there's no alternative because I'm not aware of many. How about some suggestions?
  21. Because, you know, if it is, you might want to start that list yourself. Then again, making a big list is a great idea! If we could jointly wiki/crowdsource this info! I wonder if really skilled ad buyers are willing to part with the info they make a living off, for free. Sharing is caring. We should probably just start a list ourselvesand put them out of a job. ;)
  22. @adland "clean" networks have a high cost associated with them, and don't always match the demo need. I'm just curious about best practices
  23. @ThomasPHorton Aren't best practices as obvious as when doing ad-buying for TV&mags? Don't shotgun ads randomly everywhere @MusicTechPolicy
