Good news for home studios. Here is a comparison of my Sennheiser 416 with my M5 Avalon...up against my prototype of Apogee's MiC recorded into my iPhone. Pretty impressive.

I love my 416 but I'm on a PC and this may just nudge me into getting an I-pad.

This is impressive, Joe. Do you sense that Apogee will release this product this month as their website states?

When it comes to similar sounding microphones, I say often... If there is a difference, is that difference worth the (amount of $$) between the two? One could certainly argue... not in this case.

Yes Dave Courvoisier...I spoke to the guys at Apogee today and they said quote: "MiC's are now trickling out into the hands of customers as we began shipping this past week and the feedback has been extremely positive." They are great people at Apogee in Santa Monica.

Very interesting. I'd love to see a shoot-out between the MiC and the Shure PG42-USB. I don't see a headphone-out jack (for zero-latency monitoring) - does it have one Joe?

Andrew...that seems to be the only drawback so far. I can't monitor myself when I'm recording. Gonna ask the guys tomorrow.

Andrew, I actually spoke with (the extremely helpful) Jeremy at Apogee earlier today, and he confirmed that the MiC has no headphone jack. Monitoring has to be done through your iDevice. He also said that there IS some latency inherent in the iPhone and iPad, but couldn't say exactly how much.

Of course, I already have the 416 so that is not a factor for me. The other advantages of obtaining the Apogee are worth consideration. Then I want to make an offer on John Taylor's ears so I can hear what he does.
