#npau TweetChat - Involving your community in your content with @LindseyTalerico

Lindsey Talerico from World Vision New Zealand shared her insights into how your community can be involved in what you're doing.

  1. Today we're talking with @lindseytalerico from @worldvisionnz about content and community... #npau
  2. #npau Q1: What is content?

  3. Content is one of the best and most difficult parts of your message. It's a vehicle, a package, and a delivery scheme. (1/2) #npau
  4. (2/2) Content is your voice, your story and your message. It informs supporter's decisions & keeps them coming back for more. #npau
  5. #npau Q2: You mention story and message, why is digital storytelling important for @worldvisionnz?

  6. Our message & story is everything (not just @worldvisionnz, but for all #nonprofits). Our story is what drives us, motivates us (1/2) #npau
  7. (2/2)...and connects us w/ our supporters -- that's what digital does for the story. Keeps us connected to one another. #npau
  8. And #socialmedia opens a two-way street into the neighbourhood of digital storytelling. Now our supporters can co-create content w/us. #npau
  9. #npau Q3: @WorldVisionNZ does quite a bit, what types of stories do you tell online?

  10. There are 2 types of stories I think we have to tell: 1) Stories of impact, and 2) The stories we are responsible to tell... (1/3) #npau
  11. (2/3) Stories of impact = proof of $$ spent/utilised. Donors need proof and if we are good, we should always have stories to tell. #npau
  12. (3/3) Stories we're responsible to tell = the less sexier ones, the harder more complex stories that we promise to stand for. #npau
  13. Examples: Refugees in Mali. Gender-based violence in the Congo. Urban development vs. rural development. #npau
  14. They're not "cool" issues. But they are absolutely important. Critical, even, to our work and our mission. Wouldn't we agree? #npau
  15. #npau @lindseytalerico proof of $$ is so important. The proof of $$ is in changed lives. Many don't get this link :( ^AB
  16. #npau @lindseytalerico @envoyrelate so true - accountability to stakeholders is something we need to always be aware of and address.
  17. #npau Q4: What type of content do you use?

  18. We are increasingly using more of a mix of content -- realising that every supporter has unique interests. For #socialmedia... (1/3) #npau
  19. (2/3) ..mixing up content keeps your audience engaged, being predicatably unpredicatable. Staying true to your main msg (predicatable) #npau
  20. (3/3) but mixing up the way we deliver our msg both in style/language and deployment (unpredicatable). #Npau
  21. My content philosophy is that great content will keep people coming back for more. "Type", "voice" and "mix" help you achieve that. #npau
  22. @lindseytalerico Could you provide example/s of "Type", "voice" and "mix" in your content strategy? #npau
  23. Example of mixed content type: 8 quality photos make a great additional to a Facebook photo album. But how about a photo blog post? #npau
  24. @lindseytalerico Totally agree w repurposing. This was blog post but was so good we made it into an ebook for eg scr.bi/At5JJU #npau
  25. Just on remixing content, I highly recommend @thecontentrules - here's a blog post from the authors on remixing ow.ly/ctEIp #npau
