  4. The original story: Family and friends have identified on social media four of the 16 service members killed on Monday in a plane crash in Mississippi.
  5. Fifteen Marines and one Navy corpsman were killed when a KC-130 Hercules went down in a field in a rural part of LeFlore County, Mississippi.
  6. Seven of those killed were members of the 2nd Marine Raider Battalion, based in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. The group was headed to Yuma, Arizona, for pre-deployment training when the plane crashed, according to a Marine Corps statement. The other nine were stationed in Newburgh, New York.
  7. The four named by family and friends are Sgt. Julian Kevianne, Gunnery Sgt. Brendan Johnson, Sgt. Joshua Snowden and Don Baldassare.
  8. On Tuesday, Marine Corps officials said they were still conducting next-of-kin notifications, and that the names of the servicemen who were killed in the crash would not be released publicly until 24 hours after all of the families had been notified.
  9. The Marines were members of the Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command (MARSOC), which is an elite branch of U.S. special operations forces.
