1. According to KSHB and KMBC, Clinton police Officer Gary Michael, 37, stopped a "suspicious vehicle" for a possible registration violation about 10:45 p.m. local time Sunday. The driver exited the vehicle, a Dodge Nitro, and opened fire on Michael, who shot back, police said. The suspect, identified as Ian McCarthy, 39, fled in the Nitro, which was found two blocks away.
  2. Michael, who had worked for the Clinton Police Department less than a year, died in the shootout, KSHB reported.
  3. Authorities on Monday afternoon issued a warrant for McCarthy's arrest on charges of first-degree murder and armed criminal action, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said. Troopers warned that McCarthy, who remained at large Monday afternoon, was considered armed and dangerous.
  4. McCarthy also reportedly has ties to New England and is wanted in Manchester, New Hampshire, on a previous assault charge, WFXT reported. Read more here.
  5. It was not immediately clear whether he was injured in Sunday night's shootout.
  6. "You know a lot of people call traffic stops routine, but there isn't a routine traffic stop," Missouri State Highway Patrol Sgt. Bill Lowe told KSHB. "We're always mindful that something bad could happen."
