1. Police said the helicopter crew was returning from a burglary call when the crash happened about 200 yards from a hangar.

The Gwinnett County Fire Department said two people were inside the aircraft, an officer and a pilot. The fire department helped rescue one person who was trapped inside.
  2. The other person was able to exit the helicopter without assistance, police Detective David Smith told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution in an emailed statement.
  3. The officers were wearing aviation jumpsuits and other safety gear at the time of the crash, according to Gwinnett police Cpl. Michele Pihera. Their injuries were not life-threatening, the AJC reported.

The department reported that it was windy when the helicopter crashed, and a storm was moving in.
  5. The crash broke the helicopter into two pieces. The helicopter's tail rotor broke off.
  6. "This is the best possible place to crash, if you can say that,” Pihera said, according to the AJC. “They crashed on the grass. They didn't crash over a neighborhood or a school or on 316.”
  7. A hazardous materials crew is on the scene due to a minor fuel leak, according to officials. The Federal Aviation Administration will investigate the cause of the crash.
  8. Officials closed the airport as they investigated Friday.
