1. A spokesperson for Manafort confirmed that FBI agents searched one of Manafort's homes in a statement released to ABC News on Wednesday morning.
  2. "Mr. Manafort has consistently cooperated with law enforcement and other serious inquiries and did so on this occasion as well," the statement said.
  3. According to the Post, federal agents working with special counsel Robert Mueller seized a variety of records from Manafort's home in Alexandria, Virginia.
  4. The raid happened one day after Manafort produced documents for the Senate Judiciary Committee under threat of a subpoena to force him to publicly testify on attempts to influence the election.
  5. According to the Post, "The search warrant indicates investigators may have argued to a federal judge they had reason to believe Manafort could not be trusted to turn over all records in response to a grand jury subpoena."
  6. Law enforcement authorities seeking to obtain a search warrant must generally establish to a judge that there is probable cause to believe that a crime may have been committed. Applications for such warrants tend to be detailed about the evidence that agents are looking for and the nature of the criminal activity they are investigating.
  7. The Senate Judiciary Committee subpoenaed Manafort on July 25 after failing to come to an agreement with the former campaign chairman and his attorney for a voluntary, transcribed interview with committee members.
  8. The subpoena was later dropped, after Manafort produced documents for the committee, officials said.
  9. Manafort, a lobbyist and political consultant, joined the Trump presidential campaign team in March 2016. He resigned three months later, amid reports that Manafort's firm was involved with covert lobbying in support of a pro-Russian political party in the Ukraine, The Associated Press reported.
  10. He did not initially disclose his work to the Justice Department, leading to questions of whether he violated the Foreign Agents Registration Act, which requires lobbyists who work in the U.S. on behalf of foreign governments and leaders to report to authorities about their actions.
  11. He belatedly registered as a foreign agent in June, according to Politico.
  12. Manafort has been a subject of a longstanding FBI investigation into his dealings in Ukraine and work for the country's former president, Viktor Yanukovych. Mueller is also investigating Manafort as part of his probe into Russia's meddling in the 2016 election and any possible collusion with Trump associates.
  13. Manafort has denied any wrongdoing.
