Star Wars Fansite Seminar

Several of us who run Star Wars fansites share advise and tips.

  1. Remember to always be a fan and why you want to share the magic of Star Wars with others! #SWFS
  2. My podcasting advice: be POSITIVE. If you HAVE to be negative; be positively negative. #SWFS
  3. Don't limit your fandom. Expose yourself to different things you haven't tried. You may wind up finding something new to write about! #SWFS
  4. If it's a rumour, add a question mark to the end of the title #SWFS
  5. Tip: Be wary of how one tidbit/rumour can take over a whole social media conversation. Good to discuss but stay focused, don't drift. #SWFS
  6. Tip: Be wary of how one tidbit/rumour can take over a whole social media conversation. Good to discuss but stay focused, don't drift. #SWFS
  7. Don't be afraid to work with multiple sites. You'll make friends and connections, and be able to branch out & write about many things! #SWFS
  8. With Social Networking, I'm not sure we'll see the plethora of Star Wars sites like we had in the early 2000's when #EpisodeVII hits. #SWFS
  9. @GalacticVoyage For me I had run a #RedDwarf fansite for 3 years but around 2001 I started @swbooks using own timeline kept on my PC #SWFS
  10. @GalacticVoyage No specific event. Was just looking to liven up the CJ site, thought, 'A blog!' HA. #SWFS
  11. Don't get too much up your own arse. Nothing worse. #SWFS
  12. @clubjade I use Google Reader, but I rarely touch the actual site. I prefer apps like Feed Reader which tap into the service. #SWFS
  13. What event got you started with a website/blog? Mine was the return of #StarWars in 1999 with TPM! #SWFS
  14. For aspiring photogs, don’t delete images off your card til you back them up or at least verify they aren’t corrupt after transfer #SWFS
  15. How much attention do you pay to other sites around geek culture? aintitcoonew, badassdigest, etc? Any favorites? #SWFS
  16. How to keep on top of things? Google Reader, Google Reader, Google Reader. Or any RSS reader, really. #SWFS
  17. During the holidays, encourage readers to donate to charitable institutions like @ToysforTotsUGA #SWFS
  18. I think you can find new readers in unexpected places. Look at areas you never have before. #SWFS
  19. or getting onto fan clubs in your area, like fan force or costume groups #swfs
  20. I want to thank all the contributors to #SWFS today. I think it has been valuable for many and it has been nice to see you all!
  21. Something I need to start doing more in comic reviews, giving shout outs to the colorists. Too much hard work goes into those pages. #SWFS
  22. Breaking Episode VII news will always be all over the place. Ask yourself what you're providing that readers CAN'T see elsewhere. #SWFS
