Bettina Arndt at the Wheeler Centre

Bettina Arndt, she of the 'Poor Men Aren't Getting Their Dicks In Enough' school of thought spoke at the Wheeler Centre yesterday. This is the commentary.

  1. Let's not forget that Arndt was the author of this little piece, in which she suggested women were sexually harassing men by wearing revealing clothing. An excerpt:

"Are some allowed to look and others not?

'''Well, I think there's a sort of sexual food chain and I prefer to engage with people on a similar level as me. Sometimes it feels sleazy when I'm way out of the observer's league, like if they're really old or fat or ugly.'

That's the problem. She's advertising her wares to the world, not just her target audience, and somehow men are expected to know when they are not on her page. Jean describes at length the subtle dance, based largely on non-verbal behaviour, that she uses to show men when attention is welcome. But as we all know, many men are lousy at that stuff - the language totally escapes them."

Women. Advertising their wares to the world but not prepared to follow through on the deal. SLUTS.

  2. I have no problem with #Arndt documenting men's views of sex. I do object to her suggesting women cater to that, to make themselves happier.
  3. "Life as a hot blooded heterosexual man isn't much fun these days!" #Arndt
  4. #Arndt on 'the problem' of women going off sex when they settle into their r/ships. "It means men are stuck with this endless negotiation."
  5. "The experience of many men is the experience of being 'up against it'." #Arndt
  6. #Arndt refers to women with high sex drives as 'extroardinary'. She calls them 'juicy tomatoes'. For reals.
  7. I wonder how #Arndt thinks women will want to have sex with men who they're also settling for?
  8. #Arndt says the issue of 'going off sex' is different for single women. Perhaps the problem is in the domestic workload, Bettina?
  9. "Many (non single) women go for years without spontaneous desire." Maybe the problem is in their partner then, #Arndt.
  10. #Arndt talks about 'this idea' that women have the right to say no to sex. "I don't think we expected them to say no for the next 20 years!"
  11. "The world is full of women who feel absolutely entitled to shut up shop of they're not interested." #Arndt
  12. "A ten minute bonk every now and again would be better than keeping the kitchen floor perfectly clean for him!" #Arndt
  13. #Arndt basically suggests that if you don't feel like having sex, you can just give them a wristy.
  14. If Bettina #Arndt is so concerned about how much sex my husband gets she's welcome to come and sleep with him herself @clementine_ford
  15. @ptmaree Apparently wives invest time in buying underwear for DH too.
  16. @clementine_ford why is it the woman's job to feel desire but not the mans to be desirable?
  17. "We never hear about men's restraint. We never hear about that! They're doing a remarkable job." #Arndt
  18. "A three week affair in a 29 year marriage is nothing! He is succeeding at monogamy most of the time and gets no credit for it." #Arndt
  19. Q: How commonly do men see prostitutes as a way to cope with a sexless marriage?
