Married at Seattle City Hall
Sunday, December 9 is the first day that same sex couples can be legally married in the State of Washington.
Amid fanfare, same-sex couples exchange marriage vows in Seattle(CNN) -- Boutonnieres, photographers, smiles and tears of joy -- requisite wedding fixtures -- abounded Sunday at Seattle's City Hall. But for about 140 couples, the day's fanfare brought an extra dimension. After exchanging vows at five stations set up in City Hall, they walked outside and down rain-slickened steps, greeted by cheers, confetti and a brass band celebrating the first day same-sex couples could marry in Washington.

Flowers, festivities for same-sex couples who wed in Washington
Sue Hopkins is beyond excited. Sunday is her wedding day. Sleep, she said, likely won't come Saturday night. Hopkins, 63, and her fiancee, Marji Lynn, in her 50s, are among 140 couples scheduled to marry at Seattle City Hall on Sunday - the first day same-sex weddings will be held in Washington state.

About 140 couples had registered to marry at Seattle City Hall, which had set up five separate chapels to accommodate the revelers.
