According to the Cisco Visual Networking Index, global mobile traffic will increase 26 times to 6.3 exabytes per month by 2015. With demand for more mobile data services and increasing innovations in mobile devices, the need for network operators to move to an IP backhaul is becoming more apparent. The key for mobile network service providers is the focus on speed, cost, and efficiency in mobile backhaul. Power/energy usage a big concern as network scale & for disaster recovery. Energy costs keep increasing #ciscospchat- No question energy is a big issue, but cost of last mile access is a big factor as well #ciscospchat
- Think biggest issues w/mobile backhaul is access to the site (fiber run expensv - FSO?) and scalability of bandwidth at site #ciscospchat
- Interesting that a ASR901 would consume less energy than the light on my desk - a small number that scales up pretty fast #ciscospchat
