One of the first orders of business was to honor Chicago Police Officers Alejandro Acevedo and Charlotte Gonzalez for their bravery in the line of duty.

Another item discussed was a resolution to honor newly inducted Cubs Hall of Fame third baseman Ron Santo.

Food truck operators will now be permitted to prepare “food to order” on board their trucks. On top of having the option of parking in any legal parking space across the city, food trucks now have the opportunity to park - for free! - in newly created “food truck stands,” 200 feet from a retail food establishment. Right now, food trucks are only allowed to sell food packaged in a commercial kitchen and park in metered spaces that are 200 feet from a retail food establishment. The Mayor was committed to making a workable compromise that would get more trucks rolling in Chicago.

The Chicago City Council today approved measures recommended by Mayor Rahm Emanuel that strengthen the City of Chicago’s ethics ordinance by adopting the first set of recommendations from the Ethics Reform Task Force. Five months ago, Mayor Emanuel asked the members of the Ethics Reform Task Force to review the current ordinance, study best practices nationally, engage local experts and recommend reforms to ensure that City officials and employees are held to the highest ethical standards.

“The City of Chicago is committed to maintaining the fullest degree of lawful handgun restrictions possible while still respecting the Second Amendment rights of law abiding citizens, because maintaining common-sense restrictions is an issue of public safety,” said Mayor Emanuel. “The changes approved today address the concerns raised by the court while accomplishing our primary objective of keeping guns out of the hands of violent criminals.”

The City introduced an ordinance that continues efforts to expand access to mental health services in Chicago. The proposal will allow the City to lease the former space of the Auburn Gresham Mental Health facility to a community-based mental health provider that has a long history of providing comprehensive mental health services to Chicagoans - expanding these important services to more people across the city.
