Big problems with (extra) small lab coats

OneSleepyNerd, Jyllian Kemsley and Teve Torbes talk about the difficulty of finding lab coats that fit petite people

  1. @Chemjobber @jkemsley Ill-fitting/uncomfortable is the #1 reason my labmates don't like to wear lab coats. I'm 5'1" and 100 lbs, PXXS.
  2. @onesleepynerd @jkemsley The safety lab coat people will have to catch up to this change, and fast!
  3. @onesleepynerd really? Did you check Bulwark? That's where I got the ones for my lab.
  4. @onesleepynerd Heard that UCLA is having smaller-sized people get nomex coats tailored. Option for you?
  5. @jkemsley @onesleepynerd also, at the risk of sounding flippant, severe burns are also probably uncomfortable #wearurcoat
  6. @tevetorbes @onesleepynerd Granted, but an ill-fitting lab coat can be dangerous, too. Sleeves over hands? Hem so long you trip?
  7. @jkemsley @tevetorbes I agree, I am much more klutzy with a lab coat on! Pockets and sleeves catch on everything.
  8. @jkemsley Tried going to a tailor in NYC, they wanted to charge over $100. :-/ I ended up "tailoring" it myself, but not with great results.
  9. @jkemsley @onesleepynerd I called them when I ordered mine b/c I wanted to make sure I was getting the right sizes- they were very helpful
  10. @onesleepynerd :( How many women do you think in same boat? Might dept or EH&S consider setting up contract with someone?
  11. @jkemsley My lab is 3/4 women, ranging in heights/weights. I think we need a whole lab coat redesign, not just tailoring. Will try w/ dept.
