Vitamins and Their Benefits

Sure, you may take a daily multi-vitamin...and maybe you don't. The question is how many people know what we take and what the benefit of vitamins really are?

  1. When I was a child I was told to take my Flintstone Vitamins.  I loved the purple ones and hated the orange,  but regardless of whether I chose Bam Bam, Pebbles, or Fred Flintstone I had to take one.  To me they were more like candy and I had no clue what I was really taking, I just knew that it made my parents happy.  As I grew older I would hear the same thing from my grandmother.  "Make sure you are taking your vitamins", she would say.  During my teenage years I stopped taking them since this was my stubborn stage.  Now as an adult I am back to the daily routine. I have come to learn how important Calcium, Vitamin D, Vitamin C and fish oil are for my body.
  2. Vitamin B-12: For the Brain and Nervous System
  3. Found in foods such as broccoli, soy, miso and red meat, Vitamin B-12 is vital to one's health.  This encourages cell reproduction and organs to reproduce. Pregnant women are highly encouraged to include this in their daily diet.  Vitamin B-12 also promotes healthy mental function.  B-12 supplements are sold in bulk at stores and pharmacies.  Their usage is also highly encouraged for those who follow a vegan diet.
  4. Fish Oil: Imperative for the Heart, Brain and Circulation
  5. Again, Fish Oil is vital for a healthy mind.  Fish oil is very important since our body does not have the ability to produce it on its own.  The vitamin encourages heart health, can lower blood pressure, and prevent strokes.  If you happen to have a pre-existing condition such as ADHD or chronic depression, fish oil can ease the effects of your disorder.
  6. Vitamin A, C, E: Antioxidants: Promote Heart health and the Immune System
  7. Antioxidants work better together than alone so try your best to include all 3 vitamins in your daily consumption.  All three vitamins have the potential to better the appearance of your skin.

Vitamin C as most people know can help  to prevent a cold or lessen the amount of time the immune system needs to fight an infection.  Foods that are high in vitamin C are strawberries, oranges, papaya, and bell peppers just to name a few.
