  1. HB 264 goes to the House Floor this morning. You can watch the live stream of that session here: house.ga.gov/Streaming/en-U…
  2. HB 264 is finally up on the House floor.
  3. Jacobs: #MARTA should be the crown jewel of Georgia and should be using 21st century business practices.
  4. Jacobs: Instead, it is anticipated to run in a $30 million deficient a year until 2024.
  5. And now Jacobs is responding to the minority report. "The MARTA act is a state law and as policy makers we bear some responsibility."
  6. Jacobs: MARTA hosts a liteney of back office functions.... That have been identified as needing to be privatized, including paratransit cont
  7. Part two: which can cost up to $30 to $50 for a $4 trip.
  8. Jacobs just said Keith Parker is doing an outstanding job. So why is he trying to do his job for him?
  9. Jacobs: "Stuff that is being fixed today my kids will be paying for [with 30 year bond service]" it means they will still have serve to ride
  10. And now he's lecturing on Section 13c and the loss of federal funding, 1/5 of MARTA's funding, if collective bargaining is jerapordized
  11. Jacobs: The union just throws that out to be against everything.
  12. Jacobs is right, the private company would adopt the union contract, but that's not the issues with this bill.
  13. I wonder if Jacobs and the Republicans realize that privatizing would allow the union to strike.
  14. Question time! And Jacobs believes that we should have a more comprehensive system, but we will never get there with MARTA as is.
  15. Bam! Rep. Williams: How many days a year do you ride #MARTA? Jacobs: My schedule does not allow for it.
  16. Jacobs: MARTA will not get more riders until they have more frequent service.
  17. Rep. Hugley: Concerned they would have to privatize without an assessment for cost effectiveness. Jacobs: The KMPG audit was the assessment.
  18. Hugley: if we're going to move forward and modernize, #MARTA needs to have the flexibility to do what it needs to do.
  19. And Jacobs just whipped out his Breeze card.
  20. Now Rep. Riley is speaking for the bill. She serves on the MARTOC. "#MARTA acknowledges that the current biz practices are unsustainable."
  21. One other white republican is in support of the bill.
  22. @gt7348b ya think? And this bill would do nothing for that.
  23. Now the opposition. Rep. Waites: this belief is fundamentally wrong and will will cost taxpayers $80 million.
  24. Waites: the state puts no money into #MARTA but puts its hands into its management.
