Samsung, the tech giant that sponsored the Galaxy smartphone that captured the moment, expressed its gratitude with millions of dollars to a charity of DeGeneres's choosing. She gave a portion to the Humane Society of the United States, one of the most prominent critics of Canada's seal hunt.
