1. They may be members of America's most prominent political family, but when it comes to their dad's corny jokes, Malia and Sasha Obama are still very much just your typical teenage girls.

The first daughters demonstrated this in hilarious fashion on Wednesday during the White House's annual Thanksgiving "turkey pardon" ceremony.

As they have in years past, Malia, 16, and Sasha, 13, accompanied President Barack Obama on stage as he announced that he'd be sparing the lives of two turkeys — aptly named "Mac" and "Cheese" — from "a terrible and delicious fate" this year.

"I am here to announce what I’m sure will be the most talked about executive action this month,” the president joked, clearly nodding to criticism of the executive order on immigration he announced last week.

"Let’s face it — if you’re a turkey, and you’re named after a side dish your chances of escaping Thanksgiving dinner are pretty low," he continued. "So these guys are well ahead of the curve. They really beat the odds."
  2. Obama went on to joke that “some will call this amnesty," assuring the audience "don’t worry, there’s plenty of turkey to go around.”

“It is important to know that turkeys have always had powerful allies," the president continued. "Many of you know that Benjamin Franklin once wrote, ‘I wish the bald eagle had not been chosen as the representative of our country. He is a bird of bad moral character…the turkey is, in comparison, a much more respectable bird.’ I think these two turkeys would agree with Mr. Franklin."

At one point, Obama remarked that the turkeys looked “pretty happy” to be spending the rest of their days on a farm as opposed to on somebody's table.

His daughters on the other hand... well, they looked less than thrilled to be part of the event.
  3. MSNBC reports that at one point, Obama asked Malia if she would like to pet Cheese the turkey — to which she simply responded “Nah.”

Naturally, Twitter was impressed with the young woman's too-cool-for-Turkeys attitude.
  4. As some have noted, Malia and Sasha aren't the first women in Barack Obama's immediate family to throw a little bit of side-eye.

First Lady Michelle Obama also made headlines near the beginning of 2013 when cameras captured her giving U.S. House Speaker John Boehner a head-shaking eye-roll.
  5. The Hill later reported that it may have been a joke about smoking that prompted a disapproving look from FLOTUS.

Either way, it's clear to see where Sasha and Malia get their fantastic facial expressions from.

The first daughters will reportedly be spending Thanksgiving evening with their parents, giving back to their local community "by serving up some not-so-lucky turkeys at a Thanksgiving dinner at a to-be-announced location."

As for Mac and Cheese — who competed for the honour of becoming "The National Thanksgiving Turkey" earlier this season in a public Twitter vote (Cheese won) — both nearly 50-lb turkeys will be living their lives out at Mac at Morven Park's Turkey Hill, a farm in Virginia.
