1. A group of naked students have ruined all the fun for the rest of Grand Valley State University after they imitated Miley Cyrus' nude swinging from her 'Wrecking Ball' music video on a campus sculpture.

The sculpture, called a bifilar pendulum, was removed from the Allendale, Mi. campus "due to concerns over the safety of students (after) a recent increase in popularity of riding the pendulum art piece," according to the school.
  2. The piece is strikingly similar to the wrecking ball Miley uses in her video. And so are the poses the students used in their videos...
  3. Congrats to my school #GVSU for making national news. It's been tradition to ride our #wreckingball before you graduate and ever since the parody of the #mileycyrus video the school paid a construction crew to take it down instead of the $3.99 on Clorox wipes... #reinstalltheball

  4. The sculpture was created by artist Dale Eldred and has been a campus mainstay since it was installed there in 1995.

Riding it has become somewhat of a school tradition, with students posting photos of themselves online riding it -- a long time before Miley's video existed.

  7. When Miley's video was released recently, it sparked a series of copycat videos that quickly went viral around the world, from North America, to Ireland and England.
  8. There were also some completely clothed versions of Miley's 'Wrecking Ball' on the pendulum, but those didn't make nearly as much ruckus.

  10. What does the Wrecking Ball have to say about all this?
  11. Along with this fake account someone made for the pendulum, many people are making a fuss about the school taking away the sculpture.

School officials released a statement Tuesday, stating they were planning on doing something with the piece, which is now in storage, before Miley's video sparked the copycats.

“The examination of the structural integrity of the installation showed cable decay,” said Tim Thimmesch, associate vice president for facilities services. “Safety is our main concern. We hope the pendulum can be reinstalled at that location or at another suitable location on campus.”

To this, students responded with a resounding:
  12. Dozens of students have gathered at the location where the sculpture used to hang to protest its removal.
