1. The reputation of a self-proclaimed terror expert named Steve Emerson appears to be in peril— if online reaction to the clip seen below is any indication.
  2. Fox News suggests Birmingham, UK is a place non Muslims 'do
  3. If there truly is no such thing as bad publicity, it's a great day for both Emerson and Fox News as the hashtag #foxnewsfacts is trending globally on Twitter and shows no sign of abating.

On Saturday, Jan. 10, Jeanine Pirro, the host of the Judge Pirro show on Fox, announced that Steve Emerson would be a guest on her program via Twitter:
  4. Emerson, a graduate of the Ivy League's prestigious Brown University and the founder of a group called The Investigative Project on Terrorism, then used the interview as platform to offer his "expertise" on the attacks in France to Fox News viewers.

Emerson, a self-proclaimed terrorism expert, sparked a tsunami of online mockery when he said (among other things) that Birmingham, U.K. is a “totally Muslim” place where “non-Muslims just simply don’t go.”
  5. Pirro replied: “You know what it sounds like to me, Steve? It sounds like a caliphate within a particular country.”

    Cue world-wide ridicule.

  9. So, who is Steve Emerson?
  10. According to his company's website, Emerson is the "founder and executive director" of The Investigative Project on Terrorism and an "internationally recognized expert on terrorism and national security and author."

    His bio continues:

"Consulted by the White House, National Security Council, FBI, Justice Department, Congress and intelligence agencies, Mr. Emerson is in great demand as one of the most astute, insightful and knowledgeable experts in the world today on the threat and prospects of militant Islamic terrorism. He has been quoted in more than 500 news articles and has appeared frequently on network television. His 2002 best-selling book,American Jihad: The Terrorists Living Among Us, provides the first context and understanding for how one of the most notorious terrorist groups in the world could have plotted the worst terrorist attack on American soil without detection or scrutiny by American authorities."
  11. The criticism of Emerson's comments extend to British Prime Minister David Cameron, who described Emerson as "clearly an idiot", according to ITV News.

Cameron said he "choked on his porridge and I thought it must be April Fool's day" after hearing Emerson's remarks.
