The value of an agriculture degree
A story posted on Yahoo Education lists agriculture, animal science and horticulture as 3 of the top 5 "useless" degrees, along with fashion design and theater. The ag community responds via social media.
College Majors That Are Useless - Yahoo! EducationIf you're thinking of going back to school, you might want to avoid these degrees.- I read this article and this guy is a joke. Horticulture and agriculture degrees are useless? Is that why the average base salary for a GCSAA Class A Golf Course Superintendent is around 82K? I guess knowing what plant growth regulators do at the cellular level and knowing when to rotate your chlorothalonil, iprodione, and propiconazol to maximize maximum control of dollar spot is useless as well. In agriculture, I guess knowing how to properly soil sample and determine what the CEC and nutrient levels in a Miamian soil with good drainage is useless to help maximize yeilds in crops. The population is constantly growing and farmland is being reduced; without people with these degrees to continue maximizing yeilds to feed the populations, then the food shortages that could result are unimaginable. We have to thank those with the ag degrees that are the unseen who help feed the world. You tell me how that is a useless degree. http://education.yahoo.net/articles/most_useless_degrees.htm
