When you watch the evening news - filled with tales of crime and war -  it's easy to feel discouraged. However, it's important not to forget that there are so many 'good' stories playing out across the globe at any given moment in time. Although these news stories often end up on cutting room floor, from time to time it's refreshing to remind ourselves of all the good in the world. 

Everyone's faith in humanity was restored a bit after reading this story coming out of Ohio in early June. During a state finals track event, high school junior Meghan Vogel stopped and assisted her injured competitor across the finish line. 

In early July, Bupa teamed up with the charity Dementia UK to bring better nursing care to communities across the UK. Together the two organisations will see that the number of 'Admiral Nurses' is increased by 10 per cent. Dementia is such a prevalent public health concern, and this new initiative by Bupa and Dementia UK follows in response to the Prime Minister's challenge to make UK communities more dementia-friendly. 

The video below, showing a man stopping in traffic to help an elderly woman cross the street, went viral in July. It's easy to see why the heartwarming video struck a chord with people. It forced everyone to ask themselves 'Would I have done that?' and inspired viewers to make this type of neighbourly kindness a part of their daily lives. 

In early August the world was treated to these fantastic scenes of NASA's Curiosity rover landing on Mars. Even better than the dark, thumbnail images of Curiosity on the surface of Mars was the reaction from NASA's dedicated team in Mission Control.
