  3. Jacobs: Why now? Need better tools to manage researcher activity, demonstrate productivity, and this requires ability to identify #KEDAI

  6. Bas Cordewener: KE Interoperability of Digital Repositories WG has been looking at persistence issues - PersID, POID, DAI #kedai
  7. Clifford Lynch: Issue isn't just author identifiers. Necessary infrastructure, but we want to move to fluid interchange of info #kedai
  8. Lynch: Will need lots of other stuff (ability to exchange biographies, associated standards) as well as identifiers #kedai

  11. Lynch: Motivators - accurate bibliographic control of literature (name authorities, author disambiguation, author combining) #kedai
  12. Lynch: Motivators - institutions wanting to bring bibliometric data (and stuff driven by this) into tenure and promotion processes #kedai
  13. At Knowledge Exchange event on Digital Author Identifiers in London today - follow #kedai for tweets.
  14. Lynch: Motivators - not just individual faculty members, but also aggregations (depts, research groups) are important for assessment #kedai
  15. Lynch: Major driver for universities is the development of evaluation mechanisms for faculty that are driven by bibliometric data #kedai
  16. Lynch: Young scholars are getting message that they need to take responsibility for their online records, but these r messily siloed #kedai
  17. Lynch: Another motivator is rise of social network apps in academe (such as VIVO) to build collaboration. Require accurate bibliogs #kedai
  18. Lynch: opportunity to build new national public biographies from these identifier systems. #kedai
  19. Lynch: what is 'public' in researcher information? Having stuff online v. different from being in the public domain but not online. #kedai
  20. Lynch: Moving towards a public online bibliography for scholars, with links to institutional repositories and publications in them #kedai
  21. Lynch: Opportunity to build international distributed bibliographies as a free by product of better author identification #kedai
  22. Lynch: Talking about a system that spans past, present and future. Not just fixing the future, also need to address the past #kedai
  23. Lynch: May be an opportunity to build new kinds of national biographical dictionaries, aggregated in the past in things like DNB #kedai
  24. Lynch: Is the scope just scholarly identity mgt? What about literary authors? Will probably see pressures for greater inclusivity #kedai
