Report Card Summit #RCSatl

Friends and colleagues @jgough and @mmhoward arranged a report card summit for today. They invited @centerteach to facilitate, and several folks from a few Atlanta schools attended. I was sucked into the tweets and participated from Unboundary, the strategic design studio where I work.

  1. Contemplating assessment & reporting progress before #RCSatl. Solid group of educators discussing report cards on Fri. http://pic.twitter.com/oAOCNPui
  2. How do we report progress & growth? #RCSatl Excited to be learning at Progress Report Summit @trinityatl with @mmhoward & ... (1/2)
  3. What superb modeling for multiple schools to get together and learn with each other. Using city curiosity and expertise and desire to continuously improve. Bravo and brava!
  4. LOVE hearing honest, candid discussion of how to improve report learning & growth. #RCSatl How will we grow if we don't share our struggles?
  5. How do we give an equal amount of "weight" to all types of learning? #RCSatl How do we honor all domains of learning?
  6. How do we represent the "whole child" rather than just the "academic child" in our progress reporting? #RCSatl
  7. How do we infuse design & human-ness in our stories of a child's learning? #RCSatl Does it matter? What would images add to the story?
  8. Who is the audience for the progress report? Parent or child? Who should the progress report be written for or to? #RCSatl
  9. From sharing observations/questions regarding our current reporting processes "Does your school have a common grading philosophy?" #RCSatl
  10. Can you put your hands on your school's Grading Philosophy? Is it valued enough to be broadcast to all members of the community? #RCSatl
  11. Talking abt grading philosophies: Is time the variable and learning the constant? Where does mastery fit in? Is mastery time-bound? #RCSatl
  12. Strong questions/reports coming from @mmhoward and @jgough during #RCSatl (report card summit Atlanta). #pedagogicalmasterplanning
  13. "Grading philosophy" like an athletic playbook or orchestra sheet music. Let's us know our team is working in harmony #RCSatl #FORlearning
  14. What is our grading philosophy? How do we make one? Is time a variable in mastery? #RCSatl
  15. Should Grading Philosophy really be Assessment Philosophy? Are we willing to use our Philosophy to assess children and adults? #RCSatl
  16. @jgough Seems like w/ today's tech, a common data set could produce at least 2 personalized reports - one for child & one for parent #RCSatl
  17. Thinking about grading --> learning philosophy at #RCSatl. Needs to start with the why--then how--then what. http://pic.twitter.com/35plymDw
  18. @jgough OR, students could prepare own progress reports on running basis FOR parents. #NovelIdea #Synergy #RCSatl teachers could riff, too
  19. @mmhoward Does "Why?" include why grade in the first place? #RCSatl What if reporting was not "grade based" at all? #RealWorldAligned
  20. "Are we observing or are we projecting in our current reporting processes?" #RCSatl @centerteach What's the right balance?
  21. Seems adult learners - more life experience - would WANT to model learning-feedback reporting. #RCSatl We don't want grades as adult, do we?
  22. If we want students to grow as self-assessors and self-actualized learners, we should help them practice self-reporting - thru schl. #RCSatl
  23. Wonderful post from @centerteach concerning grading and philosophy of assessment: rryshke.wordpress.com/2012/10/11/lea…" target="_blank" rel="external nofollow" title="Open this link in a new window">rryshke.wordpress.com/2012/10/11/lea… http://rryshke.wordpress.com/2012/10/11/learn-how-to-give-effective-feedback-to-others/ #RCSatl
  24. #RCSatl Have you seen all the lit lately on #GRIT? How are we assessing, encouraging, growing that trait which seems more important to life
  25. "What is this really about and who is it for?" THIS is the starting place for all of us...educators, parents, students. @sirwhitm78 #RCSatl
