Awesome Foundation - Calgary's January 2013 Thousand Dollar Thursday

After taking a small break for the holidays, AF-Calgary returned to award another $1,000 micro-grant to an Awesome Idea for the month of January.

  1. Our venue this month was Chinook Centre, one of Calgary's largest indoor shopping malls.

  4. We managed to attract a few of our faithful fans, friends and followers, plus some new people to the Awesome Movement as well.  We're so grateful that Chinook Centre allowed us an opportunity to present in their space!

  11. To kick off the night, Chris laid down a few rules.
  12. And with that, we started our first Awesome Calgary Thousand Dollar Thursday of the new year.  The Top4 Finalists for January 2013 were Allison Walters with Calgary Repair Cafes, Tony Grimes with Wood Book Workshops, The W.P. Puppet Theatre with Puppet Power and Neil Egsgard with Kensington Interactive.

  14. Up first was Allison Walters with Calgary Repair Cafes.  In her words:  "Repair Cafes are free events to provide people with the tools, knowledge, and assistance needed to repair items instead of throwing them away."

  16. Proven successful in Europe, Repair Cafes benefit the environment, community & individuals through empowerment & communal activity #AweYYC
  17. The $1,000 would help kickstart the movement in #yyc, covering incorporation fees, tools/materials, workshops & event space to host #AWEyyc
