What counts as innovation in education?

Some of the tweets from the Education Innovation Summit, April 18-19 2012 on the ASU campus

  1. ASU Prez Michael Crow lecturing about what he sees as the big prob in education: "filiopietism." Excessive veneration of tradition #eisummit
  2. Mitch Kapor just named the elephant in the room - the #eisummit is talking about helping students of color, but the room is very white.
  3. This discussion of education, and a challenge for adaptivity/personalization, is very utilitarian (get a job) #eisummit
  4. The following statements irritate me: 1. Education hasn't changed in 100 years
  5. 5. Anything that created age-based tech models
  6. 6. Entrepreneurs who have no clue about learning research and want to change the whole system
  7. A real risk that analytics/personalization will be about moving cattle through chutes more efficiently and faster #eisummit
  8. The phrase "do more with less" drives me crazy because it assumes, at root, that people are holding out on what they have to give. #eisummit
  9. Argument for consolidating districts was made because it is more efficient w/ a very dismissive rejection of people wanting local control.
  10. Adrian Fenty just said that "to attack teacher salaries and pensions, you need reform-minded leaders." Unreal. #eisummit
  11. @willrich45 Fenty actually said, "If we fire more teachers, we can use that money for more technology." Wow. #eisummit
  12. I truly hope this is never the case. RT @gsiemens: "there should be no difference between universities and corporations" #eisummit
  13. Panel: Massive renaissance in education: startups, VCs, massive influx of capital, universities need to specialize or die #eisummit
  14. Educators - if you don't see that there is a billion dollar industry wanting to take over schools using tech as the Trojan Horse, wake up.
  15. I may have to stop tweeting in order to minimize my desire to use adult words to express my thoughts.
  16. "need to unleash the entrepreneurial spirit in education and allow investors to benefit from that" #eisummit
