PR Week Power Players of Social Media UK list: the story so far
On Monday night, I made a list of UK Social Media Power Players, based on PR Week's original list, with a few more people added by me for good measure. I made use of the new group function in PeerIndex to curate it. 48 hours later, the list has been viewed nearly 4,000 times, and has seen people queuing up to be on it. Here is a brief timeline of how interest in the list developed.
- Some time in the last week, PeerIndex added a new group function - in other words, the ability to create lists of people ranked by their PeerIndex score. As a test last Monday evening, I decided to take PR Week's recently published list of Social Media Power Players and use this as the basis for creating a PeerIndex Group.

- It didn't take long for people to spot it...
- I then had the bright idea of asking people to ReTweet the link in order to be considered for inclusion on the list.
- And then the clamour started.
- Then PeerIndex founder @azeem pitched in...
- As the day unfolded, it was difficult to keep up with volume of RTs - some people re-iterated their desire to be on the list...
- Also had interesting mini-discussion with @cathybussey of PR Week regarding measuring influence and power....
- Generally had lots of positive comments - including this one from Lewis PR supremo Chris Lewis....
- Chris Lee asked the following question: Do we actually learn anything from these lists? All I can definitively say at the moment is that there is no doubt that PRs love a good list - and the people who are most sceptical about PeerIndex tend to be people whose ranking in the list is low or non-existent.
- As of this morning, the list has been viewed just under 4,000 times in 2 days. There are now 118 people on the list. If you haven't been included it is either because a) I didn't think you had a close enough connection to the world of UK PR b) I didn't see your RT - for some reason, Tweetdeck hasn't been great at capturing everything. So if you feel you really should be on there, just Tweet me @andismit.What do you think of this exercise? Again, Tweet me @andismit
