#genchat: Researching Newspapers

The #genchat topic for 22 Feb 2013 was "Researching Newspapers." People were offering fantastic sources throughout our hour discussion! Although you will find some under Q1, most links to regional websites are listed at the very bottom of this summary.

  1. Is there a way to send myself a honking, flashing reminder about #genchat like an hour before...and 30 mins before...and 1 min before...etc?
  2. Yes, there is! Each week, one of the hosts will create a Facebook event reminding everybody of the chat. So, if you are on Facebook, follow Corn & Cotton Genealogy, Finding Our Ancestors or Ancestral Journeys (or all three!) to get the latest updates, news and other tid bits for #genchat!

  3. Hello everybody, looking forward to lots of great newspaper research tips. #genchat
  4. It was great to see a couple folks contribute to the chat, even though they weren't able to be online with us during the designated time. You'll see a couple of those tweets throughout the conversation.
  5. Q1: What is your favorite newspaper website to research with?
  6. @kidmiff Q1: What is your favorite newspaper website to research with? (Repeat of Q1) #genchat

  10. A1: Whichever one actually has newspapers from the place I'm researching (which is usually none of them) #genchat
  11. Check the local paper websites, the smaller papers have quite a few years on site #genchat
  12. A1: don't think I have one, tried archives.com and found not much, so I guess Ancestry #genchat
  13. A1: I have used newspaper archive and the Library of Congress. Oh, and what I can find on Google. #genchat
  14. My 2nd fav is Chronicling America (Library of Congress) #genchat
  15. I've used a great one for California I heard from on google+ but being on my phone, no link sorry. #genchat
