Rights activists and heroes that have been honored

  1. 1. Sylvia Rivera Way
    Rivera was a longtime gay and transgender rights activist. She was credited with throwing the first bottle during the riots at the Stonewall Inn in 1969, a major event in the LGBT movement.
  2. 2. Philip Reed Way
    Reed was the first openly gay black member of the City Council – representing East Harlem, the Upper West Side and the South Bronx.

    3. Jeanne, Jules, Morty Manford PFLAG Way
    The Manfords helped form Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays, which promote the advancement of the gay, lesbian and transgender communities.

    Rispoli was a gay rights activist. He was killed in 2012 after being attacked while out for a walk.
