On September 11, 2001...

On the 10-year anniversary of the September 11 attacks, I asked people on Twitter to tell me what they were doing that fateful day. Here are some of their responses.

  2. I was working right across from White House on 9/11. Initially, we simply didn't understand the magnitude of these events. #Sept11 #OnSept11
  3. #OnSept11, I was working a few blocks from the White House. We evacuated, walking north. Everyone in DC, walking. Perfect weather. Numb.
  4. #onSept11, just after 9am, I saw a Yahoo headline, "small plane crashes into trade center." Then the Internet stopped working. Then phones.
  5. @outtacontext I was at 18th and K. Walked north to Dupont circle. We did a buddy system for people who didn't live locally. #onSept11
  6. @acarvin Got home from a late shift, turned on news- imm. rang boyf at the defence acadmy ADFA. He woke th rest of cadets. #OnSept11
  7. @nprnews I was late to work and so saw the first special report, rushed into the office for my team when 2nd plane hit #onSept11
  8. @nprpolitics #onSept11 at Ft. Hood, TX. I was on the phone from Killeen chatting w/my oldest friend from Walden, NY. Chatting soon stopped.
  9. #onsept11 #Luxembourg military secured U.S. Embassy; people of Luxembourg offered #Americans their love & sympathy. I will never forget.
  10. #onSept11 I was the pregnant Muslim mom of a 1yr old, horrified by what I was seeing on TV and worried about my children's lives.

  20. #OnSept11, I was poll watching in Brooklyn for #NYC mayoral primary. Was talking to NYPD officer & someone went to her to ask if she heard.
  21. #onSept11 I tried frantically for 3 hours to reach my buddy @FrancoOrdonez in Manhattan until I learned he was OK.
