How to purchase a great pair of jeans for men

When looking for a great pair of jeans for men there are several things to consider.

  3. We would like to share the following tips we found on how to buy the perfect pair of jeans for men.
  4. When you purchase a pair of jeans, you need to have your waist and inner leg measured, since this is how jean sizes are determined. As an example, a size 32R means you have a 32" waist with regular sized legs.
  5. According to, "How to Buy Mens Jeans," in The Idle Man, when you put on a pair of jeans, they should slide up with ease, and when they are buttoned up, you should be able to slide your finger between your waist and the jeans.
  6. The leg sizes of jeans go by your inner leg, so from your crotch to your ankle, and then they are determined by small (S), regular (R) and long (L).
  7. According to "How To Buy The Perfect Pair Of Jeans/5 Common Denim Styles And What's Right For Your Body Type," in Real Men Real Style, there are five common jeans fits for men.
  8. Skinny - This style is a tighter fit with a tapered leg opening with a low to mid-rise with a zipper fly. They are skinny from the hip to the hem.
  9. Slim - They are not too tight or too loose, and they are mid rise with a zip fly. They are straight through the hip, slim through the thigh with a narrow leg opening.
  10. Regular - These are straight leg jeans, generally with a mid-rise. The legs fall straight from the knee to the hem with a large leg opening, and they are straight through the hip and thigh.
  11. Relaxed - They have a loose fit from the waist to the leg opening, and they don't hug any part of your body.
  12. Loose - These are a baggy fit that provide plenty of room in the thighs, legs and butt.
  13. Another important consideration in purchasing a pair of jeans is the rise, which is the measurement from the crotch to the top of the waistband.

  15. Mid Rise jeans are great for men who prefer to tuck their shirts into their pants. Their waistband skims the belly button.
  16. Low Rise jeans are worn below the belly button, and they provide a more casual fit and have a more relaxed appearance.
  17. Low crotch jeans are worn low on the waist.
  18. Men with a thin body look best in straight leg jeans with a low rise, such as the slim or regular cut jeans.
  19. Athletic men with a slim waist and muscular legs and buttocks look best in jeans that have a slim fit and are straight leg or boot cut such as the slim, regular and relaxed jeans.
  20. Muscular men with much bigger thighs look best in jeans with a wider leg such as the regular or relaxed fit jeans.
  21. Men with wide hips look best in either the regular fit, relaxed fit or loose fit jeans.
  22. Men with a large waist look best in the relaxed fit or loose fitting jeans.
