The Single Pot Still range with Midleton Master Distiller Barry Crockett

A romp through the revamped Single Pot Still range of whiskies from Irish Distillers at The Whisky Exchange Vinopolis.

  1. It's almost time for our Irish Distillers tasting with Barry Crockett at @VinopolisLondon. Anyone else coming along? #twetasting
  2. We're kicking off our Irish #twetasting with a bit of background from Midleton master distiller Barry Crockett. twitpic.com/8yli89
  3. "We believe single pot still will effectively restore the image of Irish Whiskey the same as single malt has done for Scotch" Barry Crockett
  4. There's a bunch of videos explaining the history of Single Pot Still whisky, Midleton distillery and all of the whiskies we tried at the link below:
  5. .@Dbyrne58 The lineup: Redbreast 12, 12 CS, 15, Green Spot, Powers John's Lane, Barry Crockett Legacy & 3 cask samples twitpic.com/8ylty0
  6. First up - Redbreast 12yo. 80% light pot still, 20% medium. 1/4-1/3 sherry matured. Big fruit, nuts & spice #twetasting twitpic.com/8ylq20
  7. ...and to compare - Redbreast 12 Cask Strength. Almost the same formulation as regular 12, but more intense #twetasting twitpic.com/8ylrcb
  8. Feeling spoiled. Second chance to try Redbreast cask strength. Lush! Banana, flamed brandy & olive oil on the nose. Spice & orange on palate
  9. Quickly moving on to the Redbreast 15. Sweet and sour berry fruits, and more nuts and spice than the 12 #twetasting twitpic.com/8ylsl7
  10. Now comparing Green Spot to Redbreast 12 - very different. Green Spot all medium pot still whiskey #twetasting twitpic.com/8yluzz
  11. Green Spot so different than first three Redbreast whiskies. It's all Zen & Japanese barley tea w oily fish and toasted nut notes.
  12. #5 Powers John's Lane, named for the old distillery. A light pot still whiskey - fragrant and cognac-like #twetasting twitpic.com/8ylweh
  13. #6 Barry Crockett Legacy. Whiskey aged 12-22 years in bourbon and new American oak. Melon, orange & vanilla #twetasting twitpic.com/8ym059
  14. Before we move on to trying cask samples, Barry is taking us back through the first six whiskies again #twetasting twitpic.com/8ym2xc
  15. Now to try some cask samples - all first fill bourbon, but different styles #twetasting twitpic.com/8ym4w4
  16. A quick nose and taste and now it's time to vote for which cask will be bottled as a TWE exclusive... #twetasting twitpic.com/8ym7sn
  17. We're now trying and voting on single cask Midleton whiskies. The atmosphere is tense. Three to choose but which will win? I'm still for #1
  18. A quick correction - sample #3 was distilled in 1997.
  19. After two rounds of voting, due to a draw, sample 3 wins. Distilled in 1995, it's a light pot still whiskey. Coming to TWE soon #twetasting
