Slidell flash flood

On Thursday morning, flooding from Bayou Bonfouca and the W-14 Canal combined to back-fill into areas of Slidell near Kings Point Subdivision and into most of central and south Slidell below an elevation of 9 feet.

  1. Breaking: More flooding in Slidell this morning. Bayon Bonfouca and the W-14 canal are back filling areas of Slidell
  2. Water is filling some of central and south Slidell with an elevation lower than 9 feet. Sudden inundation of 5 feet is possible
  3. In Slidell, areas that were formally protected by Hesco baskets north along Hwy 11 and Old Spanish drive are now subjected to flooding.
  4. We have a reporter in Slidell, Ashley Rodrigue, says that the water in Bayou Bonfouca is going over and around pumps
  5. Flash flood emergency for Slidell. Areas in central and south Slidell under 9' of elevation may possibly flood.
  6. They are saying up to 5' of water possible. This from the NWS office in Slidell.
  7. Slidell Mayor: water currently backing up into city through Bayou Pattasat. Bayou Bonfouca so high its going around pump stations.
  8. Hearing from St Tammany parish prez Pat Brister and she says not to be alarmed, people are safe.
  9. Slidell Mayor: Water building up in the Olde Towne area and flowing southwest toward Dellwood, Yester Oaks and Salmen addition
  10. Pres Brister says the water in Slidell is coming over the railroad tracks along Hwy 11.
  11. Pat Brister says if water is rising in your street in Slidell from this flooding, call 911. They will respond.
  12. Parish pres Brister says not to panic, they do have plenty of resources, and plan to get out if the water is rising.
  13. Neighborhoods: Palm Lake, Eden Isles, Westchester are some areas subject to this flooding near Slidell.
  14. Slidell Mayor: many homes/businesses flooded and evacuations currently taking place. Until Bayou Bonfouca recedes, city will keep filling
  15. Slidell FD: from time call came in to now, water increased two ft
  16. Slidell FD: city leaders and emergency agencies mtg now to collect boats, high water vehicles to start search and rescue
  17. Officials in Slidell are stressing it was NOT a levee breach, but water back filling from the W-14 and Bayou Bonfouca water flowing together
  18. Slidell FD: residential situation not as dire as business one.. no emergency rescue effort needed at this point but preparing.
  19. Slidell fd: dispatcher on a smoke break noticed abnormal amount of water outside building at 4:30 a.m.
  20. Slidell police saying "this flooding came as a surprise to everybody," now trying to get resources in place. @WWLTV
  21. They do not think the water will be high enough to trap people into their attic, roofs in Slidell. Water will be here for 12-18 hrs
