At the VT 1:1 2012 Conference

John Downes and Susan Hennessey gave the 1:1 conference "un-keynote", on tips for a successful 1:1 implementation: "Beyond Success: 1:1 as a Transformative Journey".

  1. Listening to John Downes talking the the VT 1:1 School Conference! I always hear something that resonates with me! #VT1to1
  2. Right off the bat they framed the discussion with a focus on including all stakeholders in education; not just teachers but...
  3. 1:1 game changer in terms of actively promoting parent involvement - reconsidering our roles with all stakeholders #vt1to1 #vted
  4. Which resonated with the crowd.
  5. Now learning about importance of communication w/ parents in 1:1 implementation. Curious what #BSD parents of 9th grade think? #vt1to1 #vted
  6. #vt1to1 involving stakeholders such as parents, but also involving student stakeholders
  7. ErikaBTV: How do we actively engage parents and other community stakeholders in 1:1 #edtech? #VT1to1 bit.ly/SpMO5r
  8. Interesting to consider different perspectives on what is at stake for stakeholders in 1to1 #vt1to1
  9. Attendees brought up questions and issues from their own experiences with 1:1 implementations:
  10. Does anyone have advice of how to start a student run "genius bar" to help other students with tech troubles? #VT1to1
  11. #vt1to1 in 1 school, students suggestion was to not let computers go home when there is no homework to help group adhere to expectations
  12. @techsavvygirl not letting them bring home the computer... Would that prevent some independent learning? #vt1to1
  13. #vt1to1 #vted How do we help teachers let go of the idea of control and let students help them teach (and learn!)
  14. RT @AskBj: 1:1 allows for more communication, but it is important to establish ways to manage the communication so it stays on-task. #vt1to1
  15. But the overarching theme of the morning was the potential for 1:1 environments to provide transformative, student-led learning experiences.
  16. #vt1to1 love the idea that kids created their own classroom to document their learning with their new devices from 1:1
  17. Having 1:1 tech in classroom changes relationship roles of teachers & students. Drives bolder teaching practices/student learning. #VT1to1
  18. #vt1to1 Love the idea - students who had used 1:1 presented to new teachers about what worked best 4 them with their LMS use from last year
  19. @techsavvygirl We just started a student run iHelp desk at Winooski and BHS. It's empowering for students involved. #VT1to1 #vted
  20. @techsavvygirl Great idea! Need tech users to share w/ those who control tech in schools. Help it meet needs of the users. #vt1to1 #vted
  21. #vt1to1 like the idea of starting an i-help class and enroll students in the class for supporting 1:1 #vted
  22. Like idea of including students in Digital Citizenship Team or trouble shooting. The kids know more than us what's out there! #VT1to1 #vted
  23. Learning Management Systems (LMS's) were also a hot topic, both in choice of implementation and necessity.
  24. Edu2.0, Haiku, Edmodo, Canvas, Moodle - is adoption of a LMS crucial to the success of a 1:1 implementation? #vt1to1 #vted
