  3. Trying to find the Makapan Caves...
  4. According to the Limpopo Tourism website the Makapan Valley in Limpopo is the only cultural heritage site of its kind. It has a history of the Ndebele people and resistance wars dating back 151 years. People in this area will be conscientised of the universal value of the site as they celebrate the history and prepare for the preservation challenges as communities.

The Cave of Hearths is one of only two Stone Age sites in the world that contain an unbroken sequence of artefacts from the Earlier Stone Age to the Later Stone Age. Mid-17th century makapan's valley started their friendship with human being.

  5. The Cave of Gwasa one of historic caves in Limpopo was a site of repeated refuge from conflicts, is the caves that has being known later In 1854, as Makapan's Cave, named after the great chief Makapan and several thousand members of the Kekana chiefdom by the Voortrekkers following an attack on a party of trekboers at Moorddrift.
  6. The team got terribly lost in their quest for the Makapan's Cave, but thanks to helpful locals were able to find it. It is actually pretty easy to get to the caves. From Mokopane head towards Polokwane on the N1, just before the toll gate take a left onto the R501. You will see one of the brown informational signs indicating the Makapan World Heritage Site that is on your right. If you reach the brick factory you've gone too far!

  8. The Makapan Caves, some 12km outside of Mokopane, might not be busiest world heritage site, but it should be. Our tour guide, Moloko Madibana was not only knowledgable, but he shows a keen love for the many secrets of these caves. It's a great stop with the kids or if you like sights that leave you in awe of nature. No cell phone reception up there, but hopefully our suggestion of installing wifi in the caves will pay off. #702roadtrip #tourismforall #shotleft #satourism
