Strasburg, Inning Limits and Postseason Baseball

Some incredibly pointless navel gazing...

  1. If we believe ~180 is the limit, then Strasburg has about 50 innings to play with - with 10 regularly scheduled starts left.
  2. We can assume that for sure, regardless the 10/3 finale is out, so that's nine starts left, at a shade over 5.5 IP/GS
  3. If you want to consider Strasburg for the postseason, you're looking at minimum four GS, maximum six GS. So you'll need to borrow ~25-40 IP
  4. If you skip Strasburg's 8/28 start (adjacent to off day) & let Lannan take his 9/11 & 9/21 starts - that's only six GS (~30-36 IP)
  5. So you still "need" about a dozen innings to account for the postseason. #Strasburg
  6. You could also give Lannan Strasburg's 9/6 start AND put a hard 5IP cap on what's left and that gives you 25IP for the Postseason.
  7. So there you go, if you get creative, and dream a bit, you can keep Strasburg ~180IP, and get three or four postseason starts.
