1. More than two decades after the Schott Foundation’s founding, we remain committed to helping build the education justice movement and institutionalize the solutions that provide all students with a fair and substantive opportunity to learn.
  2. On May 11th, education advocates, organizers, and funders from across the country joined us in New York City to honor the tireless work of the evening's awardees and celebrate our 25th anniversary!
  3. Actor, educator, and entrepreneur @LammanRucker was our master of ceremonies for the evening. Lamman not only energized the crowd, he told us how his own public school experience helped inspire his career in the performing arts.
  4. We were also joined by student musicians from New York City public schools, whose awe-inspiring performances throughout the evening were compelling reminders of the importance of defending and expanding the arts and music in our schools.
  5. To close out the ceremony, the young singers of the @mamafoundation choir brought down the house with their rendition of the classic spiritual "Go Down Moses."
  6. Our awardees included:
Rev. Dr. William Barber — Lifetime Achievement Award
Kavitha Mediratta — Philanthropy Changemaker Award
The landmark Campaign for Fiscal Equity litigation victory — Lilo Leeds Legacy Award (accepted by Luis Miranda, Robert Jackson & Michael Rebell)
  7. Our house band for the Gala was the inimitable Cheryl Pepsii Riley (@CherylPepsii) and Hot Chocolate, which took to the stage to keep the dancing going after the final award was presented.
