Live From London: Day 1 Men's 400IM

Rivalry? Ryan Lochte was far and away the best last night, as he won gold while Michael Phelps finished fourth. The 400IM is the signature event of the first day of competition in London, but tonight it's Rebecca Soni's turn in the spotlight in the 100-meter breaststroke.

  6. While a majority of the Olympians were walking in the #London2012 Opening Ceremony, both Lochte and Phelps were getting some rest, preparing for today's races.

  8. It was in this event only three weeks ago at the 2012 Olympic Trials that Lochte beat Phelps by less than two milliseconds. Phelps is the reigning Olympic 400 IM champion, but Lochte is the World champ.

  11. Phelps squeaked into the finals with an eight place finish, while Lochte came in third place.
  12. "The only thing that matters is just getting a spot in," he said. "You can't win the gold medal from the morning," said Phelps to Sports Illustrated's Kelli Anderson.
