June 28 PCDC Rhode Island Ave Taskforce Meeting

June 28 meeting of the Rhode Island Avenue Taskforce, convened by Premiere Community Development Corporation. The meeting was facilitated and led by PCDC's Hazel Thomas.

  1. After introductions, the meeting begins with Leroy Hall talking about Pepco issues

  3. Best I can tell, LeRoy’a complaint is that pepco is destroying a lot of trees needlessly #RIAtaskforce
  4. Leroy Hill laments the loss of trees and green hill that used to be where Rhode Island Row is located. Sigh. #RIAtaskforce
  5. Next up was Sharon Turner from the Friends of Woodridge Library, talking mostly about the new library that we're slated to get in the very near future:

  11. Next up was an update from Kyle Todd, President of Friends of Rhode Island Avenue
  12. @FriendsofRIA Fall Fest will be Sept 22 on #RIA around 22nd to South Dakota (maybe going down to 20th ave also) #WoodridgeDC #RIAtaskforce
  13. Other stuff Kyle mentioned but I didn't tweet was that the next RIA clean up is slated for Saturday, July 14
  14. After that, Gabriela Mossi of the Greater Washington Hispanic Chamber of Commerce gave an update about their (great!) work in Ward 5:

  16. Then it was Stephanie Rones, the Executive Director of the Premiere Community Development Corporation giving an update on their work:

  18. Each Farmers Market will have a theme. Apparently this Sat is health care, teaming w/ providence hosp. Inc yoga & Thai Chi #RIAtaskforce
  19. PCDC is also working on pop up art “temporiums” on #RIA #RIAtaskforce
  20. Finally, we had a great update from Councilmember McDuffie's office, given by his Director of Constituent Services, Jeanette Mobley.
