1. Even on the surface level, that's bullshit. You can't not approach The Handmaid's Tale with a 'political agenda.' It is explicitly, fundamentally political. I can't imagine a world in which anybody could read it apolitically. Devoid of context, the story loses all meaning. Framing it as an abstract story where some arbitrary people do some bad things to some other arbitrary people doesn't make it applicable to everyone; rather, it makes it applicable to no one.
