Federal Government Social Media Camp

Today at GSA, 100+ Federal government employees joined us for the first Federal Social Media Camp. The purpose was to launch a new, diverse federal-focused social media community of practice that can help government agencies achieve their mission and reach citizens with social media.

  1. It also was an opportunity to share recent developments in social media, including the signing of the federal-friendly Terms of Service agreement with Google+ and the development of an online Federal Social Media Directory, which will officially launch in July 2012.
  2. RT @JustinHerman: Announcing at #SocialGov Camp - Google+ has negotiated Fed-friendly TOS with @GovNewMedia for the government! #Gov20 #OpenGov
  3. Today's event proved there IS a robust community of people comprised of many advanced users, with room for people getting started. The community will provide support through networking and collaboration.
  4. Best bit from #SocialGov: Agency rep said, I'm the only one & have no team. @JustinHerman [waving arms around room] WE are your team now!
  5. Breakout sessions included both basic training in social media tools and more advanced group discussions on analytics and performance metrics, mobile government, big data and social media and Terms of Service negotiations.
  6. RT @genevive0429: are social media analytics tools worth it? Great discussion. How do we know if they are working? #socialgov
  7. Big data breakout session @erie asks if others have gotten push back about format when they release data #SocialGov
  8. If you'd like to use Google+ please check with your agency Social Media Terms of Service Point of Contact to be sure the product supports your broader agency mission and goals and that  the TOS is legally appropriate for use by your agency. For additional information:
