Serious Discourse on the Internet

How does serious discourse work on Social Media? In short, it doesn't. It's an epic abyss of question begging, extremist ideology, ad hominems, and fallacy on fallacy on fallacy. In 140 character bursts, can there be any meaningful depth to a statement? Is everyone, at this level, just trolling?

  1. @Kilgoar Socialism is collapsing. Are you paying attention? It always has. Always will. Only a free market leads to true liberty.
  2. @LibertyLynx I agree socialism is in dire straits in Europe, but it was a direct product of the free market's success and not ideology.
  3. . @Kilgoar What? When has there ever been a thriving free market in Europe? It is a socialized/ highly controlled econ thus the failure.
  4. @LibertyLynx The west was relatively more open than the communist bloc and more prosperous for it, thus allowing for more socialism.
  5. @LibertyLynx This is our fundamental disagreement. Again, I'm not an ideological Marxist. I don't believe in imposing Socialism.
  6. . @Kilgoar That doesn't even make sense esp when discussing the widespread failure of Socialist economies in Europe.
  7. . @Kilgoar You don't get to choose who and how I care for others. That's my business. When government forces us, it's bad for everyone.
  8. @LibertyLynx I absolutely agree. But a prosperous society can take better care of the crippled and unfortunate. No need for coercion!
  9. Obviously the words of a Bolshevik.
  10. . @Kilgoar We DO take care of disabled in US. Go live in Russia for a while and then you'll appreciate what US offers.
  11. . @Kilgoar Again, no one stopping you from giving all your earnings to the poor and crippled. Go for it.
  12. . @Kilgoar Then do some research into all the entitlements we already have in the US & how we have no more money to support.
  13. . @Kilgoar Then do research into the MANY, MANY private charities in the US that support disabled, poor & hungry & compare it to EU.
  14. . @Kilgoar I don't know where you live but you seem very unfamiliar with the massive amount of government programs giving away my $$$.
  15. @LibertyLynx Forced socialism failed, but with the prosperity of capitalism it is flourishing naturally--not as a function of ideology!
  16. . @Kilgoar Again- that makes no economic sense whatsoever. So you are opposed to taxation? Because taxation is force.
  17. @LibertyLynx Coercion is the state of being a social animal. At any rate, we're talking about two entirely different socialisms.
  18. @Kilgoar Ok- As I said, I don't really do philosophy. It always ends badly eg Robespierre, Marx, etc.. It always crosses over into force.
  19. @Kilgoar Too many philosophies, upon the realization they can't be achieved w/out force, become deadly. Adam Smith/ Milton Friedman=Free
  20. Adam Smith and Milton Friedman are the only philosophers allowed to philosophize because they are not philosophers and thus there are no readings of their philosophies which can result in harm.
  21. @LibertyLynx "You can philosophize, or you can choose not to philosophize, but you're going to philosophize." ~ Socrates
  22. @Kilgoar Seriously- I look at the markets. I look at financials. I spend way too much time going over regulations & their impact.
  23. @Kilgoar Look- I don't understand all this philosophical nonsense. I look at empirical evidence. The rest is blah blah blah religion.
  24. @LibertyLynx Heh. Empiricism, or positivism, is itself a philosophy.
